My name is Marte Vroom (Mar-tuh Vroam). I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science at the University of Toronto researching how industrial and resource-dependent regions navigate economic transformation in the transition to a green economy. My work focuses on innovation policy, industrial development, sustainability transitions, and the political economy of regional change.
Through a combination of quantitative analysis, computational methods, and qualitative fieldwork, I study how places build new capabilities, capture economic value, and create locally embedded prosperity in periods of industrial transition. My current research focuses particularly on mining regions, critical minerals, and the future of carbon-intensive industrial economies.
My research sits at the intersection of political science, economic geography, and public policy, and is informed by collaborations and research experiences in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
